PC backup is one of those things that no one thinks about until it is too late. It is very much like the use of condom during a particularly wild night. There is something in the back of your head telling you that it is a good idea, but nothing more than that. And then, the next morning, you are cursing fate and gods for making you that dumb. Well, the same goes for backing up your PC. Once your computer has crashed and there is no way to retrieve your data, it is too late. You can only sit there with your head buried in your hands, thinking how you will not let that happen again. The worst thing is that sometimes it does.
Backing up your PC is a procedure that is one of the simplest things you can do to protect your data, but for some reason, a large number of people choose not to do this. What they are left is a wasteland where their files used to be, all the files gone and without a possibility of being retrieved. This is something that PC backup can prevent and it is truly as simple as clicking a few buttons.
There are a number of causes that can lead to the loss of data and important files. For instance, there are certain unforeseeable events that you are probably covered against in case of them happening. We are talking about fires, floods and other types of calamities. Your home is probably insured, but your data is not. That is, unless you have done your PC backup. We must also mention the always present danger of computer viruses infecting your PC and wreaking havoc on your hard drive(s). This has become a particularly huge issue since most of us started being online all of the time. In the old days, viruses had a very narrow window of time in which they could infiltrate your computer, butt today, you are exposed 24/7.
And the worst thing is that if the virus is bent on invading your computer, especially if it is “fresh”, there is very little that you or even your antivirus software can do against it. It is important to remember that antivirus software is always lagging behind, not exactly always prepared to fend off the latest viruses.
All of a sudden, you are left without essential files that might be pertinent to your career or a business that you run. Or, less seriously but equally annoying, you can lose files that are of particular importance to you, such as family photos, certain emails that you saved on your hard drive and deleted from your inbox. There are innumerable cases in which people have lost data that is incredibly important to them.
And the funniest thing is that doing PC backup is nothing complicated nor something that will take up too much of your precious time and nerves. In fact, you can do it without any special software. You simply take an external hard drive or a few DVDs and simply make copies of your most important files and data. Or, you might do it more “professionally” and resort to backup software that is included in your OS. Every type of operating system has its own PC backup tools and it is silly not to use it for what it is meant to be used. In addition to this, there are always specialized software options as well as online PC backup options that have been especially developed for this purpose.
If there is another thing that we would like you to take form this article, then it would be an advice to regularly backup your PC. Doing it once every two years is nowhere near frequently enough. You need to do this at least a few times a year, or even a few times each month. This way, any loss of data is not going to set you back too much.
